Destined for Ballerup

On 8. May 2015 Ballerup Museum opened the exhibition ‘Destined for Ballerup’ about the Grand Duchess Olga of Russia and other immigrants who have settled in Ballerup over the years. In close collaboration with the museum, Kvorning Design & Communication has provided concept, exhibition design, graphic design and production and implementation for this beautiful, sensory permanent exhibition.

Taking its point of departure in the story of the Russian princess Olga Alexandrovna, who fled the Russian Revolution in 1917, the exhibition explores a series of humane questions and themes, such as ‘What is my culture?’, ‘What is a home?’, ‘Identity as well as ‘Personal choices’. The exhibition tells Olga’s story – from an upbringing in lavish luxury to a life in exile, and the stories of other Russian immigrants and people, who have moved to Ballerup from other countries or other parts of Denmark. The stories are communicated through paintings, artifacts, personal belongings and have been visualized through various types of narrative styles and techniques such as light- and sound effects.

Green, greener, ‘The Garden Town of Fredensborg’

Joint efforts by Kvorning Design & Communication, Architect Kristine Jensens Tegnestue, Praksis Architects and Tage Petersen, Centre for Regional & Tourism Research paid off as the team were elected winner of the Fredensborg Municipality and  Realdania cityspace and dissemination project -’Future Fredensborg – Identity and modern city life in the historical castle town’ with the proposal ’The Garden Town of Fredensborg’

’The Garden Town of Fredensborg’ is the best choice. The proposal builds upon current qualities, encompasses its own, very legible, poetry and uses the existing garden and park culture as a point of departure for a greener identity. The dissemination of the history of the town and the castle will take place in a visitors’ centre, which can be built – perhaps this is the most optimal location– in the existing facilities, the committee concluded.

Kvorning nets exhibition assignment at Køge Museum

When Køge Museum reopens in 2015 after major renovations, it will be as an innovative attraction and a museum of the future communicating the history of Køge aided by the most novel and fascinating technologies.

In competition Kvorning Design & Communication recently netted the title ‘exhibition entrepreneur’ and will therefore be working on two fresh exhibitions to be featured in the adoring 17th century renaissance building of Køge Museum for Museum South East Denmark. The assignment encompasses a permanent exhibition outlining the history of the city as well as a special exhibition about the battle of Køge Bay and the warship Danneborge. Besides final details, production and assembly of the exhibitions, that make up 1,000 m2 all together, visual identity and profiling, signage, interfaces for interactive guides, screens, mounting of artefacts are included in the total enterprise and museum collaboration.

The Nordea foundation will contribute with 10.2 million DKK to the project. Along with an increased number of visitors, the new exhibitions will form the basis of a pioneering business model for Køge Museum, which hopefully will become valuable for other Danish museums as well.

Kvorning lands new exhibition job in Norway

In international competition The Museum Foundation of Grimstad in Southern Norway chose Kvorning design & communication to create a permanent exhibition about fellow townsman Morten Smith Petersen (1817-1872) – one of the first and most influential Norwegian ship-owners, who also practiced law and politics.

Kvorning Design & Communication will design the exhibition about Morten Smith Petersen’s significant influence on local, national and international matters. The setting will be Hasseldalen in Grimstad, which Smith Petersen bought in 1848. Here, his ships were crafted and he built his shipping business.

As a ship-owner and businessman Smith Petersen was a keen advocate of modernizing and professionalizing the Norwegian shipping trade and as a politician he believed strongly in free trade and the “autonomy of the shipping companies”. Smith Petersen was also co-founder of Det norske Veritas (DNV) in 1864.

The exhibition in Hasseldalen, Grimstad in Southern Norway is planned to open 1. September 2015.

Innovative mounting of artefacts with 3D-print

The use of 3D-print is increasing rapidly. Right now it’s important to develop new ideas as to how this technology can be used and explore its limits. For The Norwegian Defence Museum Kvorning Design & Communication produced a large series of individual mounting brackets for the museum’s unique weapons in 3D-print. The price of each bracket is very competitive compared to traditional forging.
